Wilma Tuck Newton, 91 of Ringgold, Virginia, died on January 15, 2023, after several years of declining health. She was born in Virgilina, Virginia, on September 25, 1931, to Norman and Sarah Glascock Tuck.
She is survived by one sister, Marian (Makie) Jones of Chesapeake, Virginia, and one brother, Grady Tuck and wife Pam of Ringgold, Virginia. In addition to her parents and husband, Clarence “Hump” Newton, she was predeceased by two sisters, Hazel Newton and Shirley Weldon of Ringgold, Virginia and one brother, Stanley Tuck of Roxboro, North Carolina.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and one very special nephew Craig Adcock, who was like a son to her. Craig lived with Wilma and Hump for years, beginning in his teens until his mother and stepfather moved to Ringgold and built a house. A special niece, Elizabeth Newton, also lived with Wilma and Hump for a couple of years until she graduated from George Washington High School.
She worked at Corning in Danville, VA, from April 1962 until January 1995, when she retired. She worked for several plant managers. She was a member of Ringgold Baptist Church Ringgold, VA.
The family will receive friends at Ringgold Baptist Church on Friday, January 20, 2023, from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, with services concluding at Floral Hills Memory Gardens at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Duane Caldwell and the Reverend Carl E. Burger presiding.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Ringgold Baptist Church, PO Box 100, Ringgold, VA 24586, or to Ringgold Fire and Rescue, 3880 Tom Fork Rd. Ringgold, VA, 24586 or to area Humane Societies.
