Willie Mae Scearce Kendrick, 97, of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, went to be with her creator on January 6, 2015. She was born July 19, 1917, in the Brosville Community of Pittsylvania County. Mrs. Kendrick was the daughter of the late Daniel Bruce and Nannie Dishman Scearce and the wife of the late Vincent Aster Kendrick, Sr. She lived most of her life in the Schoolfield area, with the last four years as a resident of the Roman Eagle. Prior to her decline in health, she was a faithful member of the Schoolfield Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. Mrs. Kendrick is survived by two children Becky Kendrick Pugh Martin and "Butch" Vincent A. Kendrick, Jr. In addition, she had four grandchildren Amy Pugh, Allison Miller [David], Jeremy Kendrick [April], Matthew Kendrick [Michelle] and seven great grandchildren Jordan Pugh, Jacob Miller, William Kendrick, Haley Kendrick, Kendall Kendrick, Noelle Anderson, and Camden Sutton. In addition, she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, "Ikey" Delores Kendrick; a grandson, Steven James Pugh; seven brothers, James Scearce, Claude Scearce, Melvin Scearce, Clyde Scearce, Charlie Barber, Fletcher Barber, Sam Barber, and sister, Molly Gardner. A special gratitude goes out to the staff of Roman Eagle for providing Mrs. Kendrick a special home for the final years of her life. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend David Turbyfill officiating. Burial will follow in Schoolfield Cemetery The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
