William Kenneth Powell, 91, of 476 Dogwood Drive, Danville, passed away on May 21, 2021 at his residence after a decline in health. Born on January 4, 1930 in Blanch, North Carolina, Bill was the son of the late Robert Guy Powell and Mary Gatewood Powell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Powell, older siblings Madora Fillman and Robert Guy Powell, Jr., and daughter-in-law Anita Wells. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Powell, his younger sister, Elizabeth Ann Sparks (Dave), brother-in-law Gordon Fillman, sister-in-law Myrtle Powell, his children Ken Powell (Patience), Dan Powell (Julie), Steven Powell (Tim), Dennis Wells, Denise Wells, and Kent Wells (Sandy), grandchildren Ellen Powell, Audrey Powell, Matthew Powell, Katie Powell, Joshua Powell, Kimber Preston (Tracy), Danielle Davis (Benton), Caitlin Basham (Zac), and Colton Wells, great grandson Bexton Wofford, and numerous loving nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Bill’s kind spirit and generosity touched the lives of countless people in the community, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bill graduated from Campbell University and also attended Wake Forest University. He was an Army veteran and Past Master of the Roman Eagle Masonic Lodge. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Tabernacle. The family will receive visitors Friday evening, May 28, 2021 from 7:00-8:30 PM at Townes Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at Townes Memorial Chapel Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 2:00 PM with pastor Joey Bray officiating.
