William Haynsworth

May 6, 1931 — December 29, 2012

William Harden Haynsworth, 81, went to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, December 29th, 2012 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Born June 5, 1931, in Danville, Virginia, he was the son of Helen Harden Haynsworth and Charles Riley Haynsworth. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Charles Riley Haynsworth, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Harriet Harper Haynsworth. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and served in Korea. On his return from Korean in 1955, he joined the family business, Haynsworth Inc. which now operates as Office Plus Business Centre. He was active in the Danville community where he served as chairman of the Danville Chapter of the American Red Cross, President of the Danville Historical Society, President and Board member of the Danville Concert Association, and member of the Kiwanis and German Clubs. He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, a deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, and pianist. Survivors include three nieces: Susan Harper Haynsworth of Carolina Beach, NC; Martha Haynsworth Hamlin and her husband Lee of Richmond, VA; Harriet Haynsworth Beale and her husband Ray of Danville; one nephew, Charles Riley Haynsworth, III and his wife Lynn of Danville. He is also survived by five great nieces and nephews and three great-great nieces. A celebration of his life will be conducted Monday, December 31, 2012 at 1 pm at First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Allen Thompson. Interment will be at Highland Burial Park. Visitation will be Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm in the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary and at other times at the residence of Harriet and Ray Beale, 129 Westmoreland Court. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Danville Lifesaving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541 and God's Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.
