William (Bill) Witcher Greene, 84, of Parsonsburg, Maryland, formally of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Monday March 5, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Washington DC on December 11, 1933 to the late Ann Smith and James Francis Greene. His brother, James Francis Greene, Jr., predeceased him. Mr. Greene grew up in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with a BS in chemistry, class of 1955, and received a MS degree in education from Radford University in 1995. He was a captain in the US Army Reserves from 1955-1963. Bill was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many leadership positions in the church. Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Linda Waggoner, of Parsonsburg, Maryland, children, Mary Page Gwaltney of Roanoke, Virginia, Whitley Greene of Atlanta, Georgia, Anne Beale Yancey and husband, Robert, of Dublin, California, William Greene, Jr. and wife, Sylvia, of Colfax, North Carolina, Darden Greene of Cross Lanes, West Virginia, Robert Greene of Los Angeles, California, step-daughter, Cynthia Vigdor and husband, Robert, of Parsonsburg, Maryland, grandchildren, Katherine Gwaltney, William Gwaltney and wife, Jessica, Ellen Yancey White and husband, William, Alexander Yancey, Mary Elizabeth Greene, James Greene, Cody Greene, step-grandchildren, Michael Vigdor, Thomas Vigdor, and Christopher Vigdor, and great-granddaughter, Caroline Gwaltney. His sister, Ann Hodges, Sanford, North Carolina, sister-in-law, Margaret Greene, Camp Council, Pennsylvania, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive him. A funeral service will be held Saturday March 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Danville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 3058 North Main Street, Danville, Virginia, 24540. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park, Rocky Mount, VA. There will be a visitation an hour before the service.
