William T. “Tim” Fowlkes, III, born April 17, 1956, passed away January 5, 2021 at SOVA Health after a brief illness and complications caused by COVID-19. Tim was born as an American citizen in Teran Iran, to Martha and William “Bill” T. Fowlkes, Jr, while his father worked for the Federal Government abroad. During Tim’s youth he lived in other countries, finally moving to Danville Virginia where he lived most of his life. Tim leaves behind his faithful partner in life, Donna R. Hatchett, and second mother Marie Ann Hatchett, a sister Andrea Fowlkes Morgan (Husband Jim deceased), two nieces Alex and Elizabeth, a brother Steve Fowlkes (Husband Dennis Howard) and countless friends who loved Tim and his conversations around a good cup of coffee. Tim was a 1974 graduate of George Washington High School and attended Virginia Tech where he furthered his education. During Tim’s professional life he worked in the tobacco and insurance industries where he was very successful. After a serious brain injury in February 2000, and a long recovery, Tim was not able to return to work and took on the job of greeting friends around town in different coffee shops. He was known by many as “The Governor or The Mayor”. One of the most personable, dynamic, entertaining individuals you could ever meet, most all of his friends would tell you “he always made me laugh, and his laugh was infectious”. Tim never met a stranger and was always excited to meet someone new and engage in a friendly conversation. When Tim could not remember your name, he was always confident in calling you “Big Daddy” in his larger than life theatrical manner. As an avid information hog, Tim was one of the most intelligent individuals you could meet. Tim loved history and would spend countless hours in any library reading and searching the Internet for new information. The desire for knowledge was the catalyst for many of Tim’s conversations. During Tim’s life he was a dedicated member of the AA Fellowship for many years, which he attended regularly. Tim sponsored many friends that needed his love and support in their alcohol addiction recovery. As a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Tim accepted Jesus as his personal savior over 20 years ago. A FACEBOOK LIVE STREAM service will be held on the West Main Baptist Church (Danville VA) FACEBOOK page Saturday January 9, 2020 at 1PM with private interment at Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew or the charity of choice.
