William James Erwin, Jr. passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017 at his beloved home “Creekside”, in Danville, VA. He was born in Chester, SC, a son of the late William James and Elizabeth Suttle Erwin. Bill was a graduate of McCallie in Chattanooga, TN. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, and loved his Tarheels. He also graduated from UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce. He worked many years in the textile business. Bill was an avid ham radio operator and loved to sail on the Chesapeake Bay. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Danville Golf Club, The German Club and served on numerous community service and economic development organizations. He is survived by his wife, Bracken Rush Erwin of the home; a son, Todd Pinekenstein, and wife, Cindy, of Danville; and four grandchildren, Spencer, Evan, Connor and Sophie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William J. “Tripp” Erwin, III. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Townes Memorial Chapel with Reverend Dr. CAM McIntire officiating. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the residence.
