William Dix

December 31, 1969 — September 9, 2019

William Nathaniel Dix, 93, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at his residence.    He was born in Caswell County, NC, a son of Hurley Dix and Lottie Weadon Dix. He was married for 70 years to Thelma Pyrant Dix who passed away on September 7, 2017.    He was a member of Providence Baptist Church for over 70 years and served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and a trustee.    During his lifetime, he was employed with Dan River Inc. until his retirement.  He was also a carpenter and farmer on the family farm in Providence.    In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by four brothers and six sisters.    He is survived by his daughter, Gail D. Merchant of Danville; a son, William Kenneth Dix and his wife, Sandie of Chapel Hill, NC; and a sister, Nancy D. Davis and her husband, Frankie of Danville. A special thank you to his caregiver, Barbara Cook.     Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2019, at 2 PM at Providence Baptist Church with the Reverend Mitch Cifers officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.    The family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral from 12:30 to 1:45 PM and at other times at the residence.    The family suggests that memorials may be made to your favorite Charity.
