William Crawford

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, William "Billy" Wayne Crawford passed away peacefully at his home.  Billy was born on May 16, 1943 in Danville, VA to Raymond B Crawford and Irene Neely.  He graduated from George Washington High School.  After graduating, Billy served his country in the Army National Guard.  Billy was a successful business owner in the trucking and transportation industry, and he found fulfillment and enjoyment in mentoring others in the same industry. Billy married Joyce Elaine Mays on June 15, 1969 and on October 28, 1973 they were blessed with a son, their only child, Brandon Lee. Billy had a personality larger than life and loved life. He never missed an opportunity to play and tease those he loved and cared about.  He enjoyed the camaraderie he always found with his many friends on the golf courses and clubhouses of Tuscarora and later, Danville Golf Club. He is predeceased by his father Raymond B, his mother Irene Neely, and his wife Joyce Mays. He is survived by his son, Brandon L, daughter in law Allison Spaulding, sister Judy Elliot, several nieces, many great nieces and nephews, brother in law Steven Mays, and his beloved dog "Henry". A memorial service will be held on Monday December 9, 2019 at Townes Memorial Chapel at 12:00pm, with visitation from 11:00 to 11:45am.
