William Clifton

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of William A. "Bill" Clifton Jr. on Wednesday May 8 2019 at SOVAH Medical Center.    Bill was born in Danville, VA on November 12, 1937 to the late William A Clifton Sr. and the late Thelma Mosley Clifton. Bill was a 1956 graduate of GWHS, a 1960 graduate of VPI and enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry.        In 1957 Bill married the love of his life the former Beryl Conway Martin. They enjoyed an incredible 61 year romance.   Bill was an active member in his community as a member of the Civitan club for over 35 years, serving at the local, regional, and national levels. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Danville Life Saving Crew for 9 years.    Bill was an active member of West End Christian Church for over 45 years and had in recent years transferred his membership to Fairview UMC where he quickly found a new home to share his faith.        In addition to his wife of the residence, Bill is survived by a son, Dr. Jeffrey Clifton (Patti) of Danville; daughter, Lori Ann Tamayo (Mike) of VA Beach, VA; and a brother Jerry L. Clifton (Glenda), of Norman, OK. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Patrick Clifton of Washington, DC; Christian Clifton of Wilson, NC; Matthew Tamayo, Georgia Tamayo, and Amelia Tamayo all of VA Beach, VA.      A memorial service will be held from Townes Memorial Chapel at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 12. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 2:00-3:00 pm and at other times at the residence.       The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, the Friendship Class at Fairview UMC, or a charity of your choice.
