William Fredrick “Freddy” Carter, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Lynchburg General Hospital, after a decline in health for the past several years. He was born on March 9, 1947 in Danville, a son of the late William Fredrick “Billy” Carter and Irma East Carter. On August 24, 1968, he married the former Jean Nester, who survives of the home. Freddy served in the Virginia National Guard and was employed with CCP for 45 years until his retirement. He also enjoyed working on the family farm. He was a member of Chestnut Level Baptist Church, a very active member of the American Legion Post 325, and a charter member and treasurer of the Pitt County Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife, Jean Carter; two sons, William F. “Rick” Carter, III and his wife, Kim, and Robert James “Robby” Carter; a sister, Ellen Carter French and her husband, Johnny; a grandson, Austin Carter; two granddaughters, Billie Jean and McKenzie; and a niece, Lauren Raye French. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 2 PM at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend David Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park with flag presentation by the Virginia National Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 3 at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 t0 8:30 pm and at other times at the residence, 8625 Spring Garden Road, Blairs, VA.
