It is with a deeply saddened heart to announce the passing of William Edward Broach III, MD, after a hard fought battle with cancer. Dr. Broach was surrounded by the love of family when his body finally found rest on Monday May 8, 2017. He was 71. Dr. Broach was born on March 21, 1946 to William “Willie” and Mavis Broach of Waycross, Georgia. ?He and his family moved to Tampa, FL, Dr. Broach’s love of rhythm earned him the drum major position in the Robinson High School Marching Band. After graduating from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in 1968, Dr. Broach began teaching High School Chemistry and Biology in Tampa, FL. Feeling unfulfilled, he decided his talents and caring personality would be better suited by helping others in a medical capacity. In 1975, he began his journey to become a physician in Guadalajara, Mexico by attending University bilingual medical school. ?His experience with a malnourished population leading to high-risk pregnancies enabled him to enhance his specialties. ?While attending the University of Alabama’s School of Medicine, Dr. Broach chose to follow a path that would mold him into an instrument to help bring life into the world. After completing his residency at the West Virginia University Medical Center in Morgantown, WV in 1985, Dr. Broach started his professional medical career at OB-GYN Associates of Danville in Danville, VA. Since that time, Dr. Broach has touched the lives of countless patients, their family members, and fellow doctors and nurses alike. He humbly tasked himself with the privilege of delivering thousands of sons, daughters, nephews, nieces, cousins, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. Playing a major role in one of the most important moments in a person’s life wasn’t enough for Dr. Broach. Since 1988, when not in the office, on-call, or in the hospital, he spent his free time helping patients at The Free Clinic of Danville. He enjoyed this sense of giving back to the community so much so that he became the Board Chairman. After 31 years of dedication and service to his patients and to the Danville area, Dr. Broach formally retired from practicing medicine in February 2017. Although Dr. Broach has parted ways with his earthly body, he is resting easy knowing that his memory will endure through the loved ones he cherished so very deeply. The emphasis he placed on the importance of family and the joy it brings will continue to live on through his children and grandchildren. ?He is survived by his son, William "Bill" Edward Broach, IV of Staunton, VA, his daughter Nicole Luisa Broach Lynn and her husband Gene of Danville, VA, his son William "Tyler" Broach of Williamsburg, VA and his daughter Audra Leigh Broach of Marietta, OH.
