Walter Ragsdale

Walter Neal Ragsdale, Sr. (“Cookie”) passed away on August 28th, 2018 at his residence. He was born on June 28th, 1935 to Walter Emerson Ragsdale and Hazel Farlow Ragsdale.    On January 24, 1992 Cookie married Gail Scearce Ragsdale.   On June 29th, 1994 he suffered a massive stroke which left him totally disabled. Gail was a faithful caregiver to him until his passing.    “Cookie” was a graduate of GWHS and was employed by Dibrell Brothers Tobacco and later Mumford Flooring Store. He was well known to many friends.    He is survived by his three children: Michele Griffith (David), Neal Ragsdale Jr. (Christi) and Angela Hyatt: two step-sons, Todd and Jeff Scearce. He also leaves behind his brother Tommy Ragsdale (Bonnie) and their children Julie Anne Ragsdale and Rachel Vanderbye (Aron and daughter Gracie).    Pre-deceasing him were his parents and brothers, David and William.    As per his wishes, his body will be donated to science and no formal service will be held. There will be an informal visitation on Friday, August 31st from 7-8 at Fairview UMC 1013 Westover Drive.    In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
