Walter Lane Anderson, 85, of Axton, VA, passed away on May 8, 2024.
Walter was born on February 24, 1939, the son of the late George and Summers Anderson. He served in the United States Air Force as a radio operator and then worked for a telecommunication company before retiring as a delivery driver of medical supplies.
He was of the United Methodist faith and was active in the Ruritan Club as well the Community Center in Cascade, VA. As a guitar and banjo enthusiast, Walter could play by ear everything from Southern Gospel to Bluegrass and was a part of the band UCLA (Upper Cascade Lower Axton) Ramblers. In addition to music, Walter enjoyed spending time outdoors on his farm and collecting knives. He was called “the cat man of Cascade” due to his love of cats and other animals.
In 1998, Walter married Anna Anderson. He is also survived by his two step-sons, Mark Elzey and Joshua Elzey, eight grandchildren, a niece, Kelly Walker, and a nephew, Todd Carter. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Faye (d. 4/23/1997).
Walter will be interred at Danville Memorial Gardens.
