Virginia “Iris” Martin Ireson, age 93 died on January 16, 2019, after a brief illness. She was born in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of Charlie and Reaves Dalton Martin. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Harry Denton “Shine” Ireson, two brothers, Dalton Martin, Clyde E.” Jimmy” Martin, a sister Shirley M. Essa, and her grandson Matthew. Survivors include her three children: Ava Barrett and her husband Tom, Harry D. Ireson, and his wife Melissa and Paul Ireson and his wife Lisa. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Katherine Lewis and her husband Mike, Elizabeth Barrett, Rebecca Barrett, Kristi Leff and her husband Seth, Candi Ireson, H.D. Ireson, III, Denton Ireson and his wife Cheryl, Victoria Ireson, Valerie Setliff and her husband Nick and a host of great grandchildren. Iris was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Schoolfield High School, and a graduate of the C&O Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as an RN for the Memorial Hospital and later as an Instructor of Practical Nursing at DCC. Her loves were her family, nursing, flowers and birds. Funeral services will be held on January 18, at 2pm, at Fairview United Methodist Church on 1013 Westover Drive with the Reverend Jennifer Coffey officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times at the residence, 1406 Westover Drive.
