Virginia Ann Nash Hodges, 73, of Providence, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday January 21, 2025.
Virginia Ann was born on September 26, 1951, a daughter of the late Thomas Garvin Nash and Thelma Janney Nash. Virginia Ann taught elementary education for various school systems, primarily for Caswell County Schools, totaling 43 years of service at locations including North Elementary and Cobb Memorial School where she was named Caswell County Elementary Math Teacher of the Year. She also taught at Woodlawn Academy in Chatham Virginia and Piedmont Academy in Providence North Carolina.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she served as the Financial Secretary. She was an active charter member of the North Carolina Gamma Phi chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an educator’s sorority where she served multiple positions during her time including chaplain, secretary, president-elect and was the current president. Although retired, she continued to be a lifelong learner and educator. She absolutely loved reading. She was a dedicated member of the Caswell County Friends of the Library since 2013, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering lifelong learning and enhancing the influence of Gunn Memorial Public Library on the quality of life in Caswell County. There she served as a board member and as secretary. She kept the Little Lending Library at Bethel Church stocked. She also helped organize and coordinate the Gunn Memorial Library book club. She served as a member of the Caswell County Library Board for four years. She was a former member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), an organization dedicated to providing women from diverse occupations with opportunities to help themselves grow personally and professionally through leadership. In 1984, Virginia Ann served as the Corresponding Secretary for the Danville chapter.
In her younger years she had a passion for equestrianism, competing in horse shows where she was awarded various ribbons and trophies for her efforts. She had a love for history and traveling, often incorporating historical places of interest into her travels whenever possible. She absolutely loved the mountains and would often say Virginia had the most beautiful of them all. Whenever she had spare time, she loved spending time away from home in the beautiful smokey mountains of Floyd, Virginia; her home away from home where she felt the most at peace.
Virginia was married to Wayne Hodges on November 22, 1973 for 51 years, who survives her.
Including her husband Wayne, Virginia is also survived by her son Thomas Hodges (Beth) and daughter Kimberly Hodges.
