Mary Virginia Bryant Collie died at Roman Eagle on July 25, 2014. Born May 24, 1918 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late James William Bryant and the late Hattie Ellen Dodd Bryant. She was married to the late Hugh Peters "Pete" Collie. She lived all her live in the Dry Fork and Danville area and was a member of West Main Baptist Church. Mrs. Collie was a graduate of James Madison College and taught home economics in Pittsylvania Schools for 41 years. She taught at Dan River High School, Whitmell Farm Life School and retired from Tunstall High School in 1980. Her many students who are homemakers now remember the valuable lessons taught by Mrs. Collie in her home economics classes. Mrs. Collie served as advisor for the Tunstall Young Homemakers for many years and enjoyed the fellowship of the members. She was a member of the Robertson-Bennett Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as chapter officer and Grand Martha for the state organization. She was a charter member of Epsilon Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International serving in various capacities and was always faithful in her attendance. Mrs. Collie volunteered at Danville Regional Medical Center for over 25 years and enjoyed helping the families in the surgical waiting area. Mrs. Collie is survived by a godson, Robert Carrington Echols and his wife Amy and their daughter Caroline and son Carrington of Cary N.C. and Ruth Echols Amos and her husband Craig and their daughter Avery and son Jack also of Cary N.C. She is also survived by her "daughter" Kirk Bidgood of Danville. In addition she is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the last member of her generation and was predeceased by three sisters, Thelma L. Bryant, Ruth B. Willis and Arlene Bryant and four brothers, Jack R. Bryant, John D. Bryant, Robert L. Bryant and Elton Bryant. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Monday, July 28, 2014 at West Main Baptist Church by Rev. Bruce Wilson. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
