Violet Hobgood Thigpen, 92, widow of Alwood Hayes Thigpen, Sr., of Danville, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Born on April 9, 1926 in Oxford, NC, she was a daughter of the late Thomas N. Hobgood and Josephine Daniel Hobgood. Violet graduated from Berea High School in Oxford, NC and attended East Carolina University, as well as King's Business College. She was an active member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church in Danville, VA for over 60 years, where she was involved with the Hand Bell Choir, Adult Choir and the New Generation Choir. She was strongly committed to her Lord and Savior, her husband, and her family. She is survived by a daughter, Dianne T. Foutz, and her husband, Everett W. Foutz; a son, A.H. “Woody” Thigpen, O.D., and his wife, Lora Lynn Thigpen, Ph.D.; three grandchildren, Emily Foutz, Nathan Foutz, and his wife, Robin, and Bethany Thigpen; four great grandchildren, Annaka Violet Foutz, Joshua and Elisha Kahlich, and Vinny Wilson; one sister, Ramona Cash; and one sister-in-law, Kay Hobgood. In addition to her parents and her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Thomas N. Hobgood, Jr. and Elam P. Hobgood. A visitation will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Danville, VA. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Danny Davis and Rev. Steve Chromy officiating. Burial will follow the service in Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA.
