Thomas Andrew Smith, Jr. of Danville, Virginia passed away on  April 28, 2016, at the UNC Health Care Hillsborough Campus in Hillsborough, NC. Tom was born in Lenoir, NC on May 18, 1931 to the late Thomas Andrew Smith and Ora Lee Payne. His grandparents, William and Ora Lee Jenkins raised him. After serving in the Navy in the Korean War, he graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He served his community by working for the Social Security Administration. Tom was  a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and past member of the Kiwanis Club.        He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Eanes Smith of the residence; his two daughters, Gail Ann Smith of Kernersville, North Carolina and Judy Smith Cox of Danville,Virginia; his two grandchildren, Anne Penn Cox of Livingston, Montana and Andrew Jones Cox of Danville, Virginia; two brothers, Robert S. Payne of Greensboro, North Carolina and Dennis Smith of Lenoir, NC; one sister, Phyllis Payne of Tacoma Park, Maryland; two nieces and a nephew. Tom enjoyed fishing, gardening and most importantly spending time with his family.             A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Danville, Virginia on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM, and visitation will to prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Following the memorial service, a graveside service will be held at Westminster Gardens Cemetery in Greensboro, North Carolina. At other times, the family will receive friends at 324 Updike Place, Danville, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
