Thomas Bailey

Thomas Levagar Bailey, age 98, of Feridean Commons Assisted Living in Westerville, Ohio died, at home on February 15, 2016. He was born in Burlington, North Carolina on October 17. 1917 and lived most of his life in Danville, Virginia except for time spent in California for military duty. He spent his retirement time in Flager Beach, Florida and Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. He is survived by his son, Thomas L. Bailey, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Donna C. Bailey, Westerville; grandson, Christopher Thomas Bailey, Hilliard; sister, Dandridge D. Bailey, Winston Salem, North Carolina; and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Willie Judson and Iris Vowell Bailey; his loving wife, Helen Stephens Bailey; and brother, Judson Vowell Bailey. He was an Eagle Scout and U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the LSU School of Banking. He retired as Senior Vice President and Director of the First National Bank of Danville (now Bank of America) after 36 years of service. He was a long time active member of First Baptist Church. He served as chairman or director of many Danville civic organizations. He loved to play golf and was a part owner of Ringgold Golf Club. He was an avid sports fan and followed the LSU, Virginia Tech, and most recently, OSU football teams. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Danville, Virginia on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will be at Highland Burial Park. Services will be officiated by the Rev. Angela Zimmerman. The family will greet friends and family after the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
