Thelma Martin

Mrs. Thelma M. Martin, age, 95, a resident of Roman Eagle Nursing Home passed away, Sunday November 3, 2019.    She was born on July 22, 1924 in Danville, VA, a daughter of the late Eli and Marie Matney.   She attended Danville public schools and was a graduate of George Washington High School.   Mrs. Martin retired from Bank of America and was a member of Fairview Methodist Church. Thelma loved to read, travel, play bridge and cook for her family.   Mrs. Martin is survived by sons William C. Dellinger Jr and his wife Rebecca of Danville, VA, David Eli Dellinger of Chesapeake, VA, step-son James A. Martin, Jr and wife Charlane of Clearwater, Fl, brother Edward E. Matney and wife Herma of Wilmington, NC. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents Mrs. Martin was predeceased by husbands, William C. Dellinger, Sr., and James A. Martin, Sr., brother Victor A. Matney, sister Elva M. Saleeby and daughter- in- law Joan Dellinger.   The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and caregivers at both her residence and Roman Eagle Nursing Home for their kindness and care.   A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Highland Burial Park at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Winston Crichlow officiating.   The family respectfully requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Danville Life Saving and First Aid Crew, Inc., 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541.
