Thelma Clark Gleber, 94, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on December 26, 1928 in Concord, NC to the late John Henry Clark and Iva Chandler Clark. She grew up in Danville and worked at the telephone company and Woolworth’s before marrying her husband. After they married in 1951, she became a homemaker and traveled with him and four children while he served in the Army until his retirement in 1971 when they moved to Danville.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years July 12, 2001, Anthony Jacob Gleber (LTC U.S. Army Ret.) and son, Scott Erick Gleber on September 20, 2013.
In addition to her husband and son, she was predeceased by her sisters, Mattie Matherly, Arlene Pickeral, Addie Sticher, June Burnett, Joyce Ladd, and Annette Powell and her brothers, Delbert Clark and Calvin Jack Clark.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Gleber Hopkins (Jerry) of Greensboro, NC; sons John A. M. Gleber (Marian) of Chatham, VA, and Daniel J. Gleber (Kathy) of Danville, VA; three grandchildren, Beth Ann Hopkins of Houston, TX, Matthew Gleber (Kristin) of Chatham, VA, and Sophia Gleber of Danville, VA; two great-grandchildren, Parker and Sawyer; and brother, Larry S. Clark of Danville, VA.
The family would like to extend a word of thanks and gratitude to Liberty HomeCare & Hospice Services for the exemplary care given to their mom especially Deb, Melissa, and Amie. The family would also like to extend special thanks to the caregivers who came 24/7 to care for Mrs. Gleber: La’Kisha, Bessie, Gloria, Cordelia, and Destiney. Thank you so much as you treated her as if she was a member of your family.
Graveside services will be held at Highland Burial Park Friday April 28, 2023 at 11:30am. The service will be conducted by Reverend Daryl Joyce. Family will receive friends the day of the funeral at the family residence (137 Watlington Ct, Danville, VA).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
