Thelma Cox

It is with great sadness that the family of Thelma Wood Cox announces her passing on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at the age of 97. Thelma was born May 15, 1921 to Samuel and Lucretia Wood. She was predeceased by her daughter, Frankie Chattin Duffer and two husbands, Frank Chattin and John Cox.  She leaves behind one grandson, Timothy Duffer (Kristy) and two great-grandchildren, Heather and Allison Duffer. Thelma is also survived by siblings, Frances Wood Moore and Samuel Wood, Jr. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mamie Wood Hawker, Evelyn Wood, Alma Wood Motley, Otis Wood, and Dema Wood Martin. Ms. Cox was a longtime member of Oakland United Methodist Church. She worked at Dan River Mills until she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. A funeral service will be held at 2pm at Townes Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 8, 2019 with Pastor Jon Woodburn officiating with interment following at Oakland United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00pm before the service and at other times at 201 David Giles Lane, Blairs after 5:00pm
