Teddy Rogers (Ted) Morris, 78, of Danville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 7th after a short illness. Ted was a son of the late Thomas and Bessie Morris of Wilson, NC. He was born on Dec 2nd 1936 and graduated from Bailey High School class of 1955. Afterward, he enlisted in the army, serving as an MP in Occupied Germany up to 1958. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Gloria. After working at Southeastern Electronics for 26 years, he decided to follow his lifelong dream and become a police officer and served on the Danville Police force for five years, then switched to the Public works Department cemetery division until his retirement. Ted was very active in the Danville community, coaching baseball for many years, working with the Danville Lifesaving Crew becoming a lifetime member, and working as an auxiliary police officer after he moved to Public works. He was a faithful member of Blairs Baptist Church and served as both deacon and greeter for many years. Ted is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gloria Dew Morris, originally from Bailey NC. He is also survived by sons Tommy Morris of Rustburg, VA, Barry Morris of Blairs, Va and John and wife Cindy Morris of Suffolk, Va. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsey and Emily Morris, James & wife Liz Morris, Marc & wife Julie Morris, Diana & husband Jimmy Harrison, Sarah & husband Josh Okoniewski, Stephanie & husband Richard Phillips, and Gloria Fichera. His great grandchildren, Natalie, Thad, and Lucas Morris, and Maika Fichera. Ted is survived by one sister, Faye Kenner and husband Roger and two brothers, Doug and wife Gerry Morris, and Luther and wife Juanita Morris. In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by two sisters, Theresa Sherer, and Joyce Thorne. A memorial service will be held at Blairs Baptist Church, 5260 US Highway 29 N, Blairs, VA, 24527 on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM; Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. At other times, the family will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be made to the Blairs Baptist Church building fund.
