Sydnor Landis Dickenson, age 80, of 150 Westmoreland Ct., passed away on January 2, 2018, at her home in Danville, VA. Born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1937, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Sydnor Landis of Lynchburg, VA, and Arthur Clair Landis of Newport, PA. Syd graduated from high school in Painesville, Ohio, earned a BS from Lynchburg College and Ohio State University, and completed her Masters work at University of Cincinnati and Ohio State University. She worked for American Airlines in New York and Proctor & Gamble based out of Cincinnati before coming to Danville in 1961. At that time she began teaching at Woodrow Wilson Jr. High. She taught at Bonner Jr. High and Langston Jr. High until 1996. She taught computer internet skills at Gamewood Data Systems and helped many friends learn to use computers. After retirement from school teaching she created and hosted web sites for many individuals, businesses, and community organizations. Syd was a member of many community and educational organizations and honorary societies, and a last wish was to spare the mention of them by name. She is survived by three sons, John Dickenson, Jr. and wife Kathryn of Powhatan, VA, David Dickenson and wife Kim of Greensboro, NC, and Allen Dickenson of Danville, as well as four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Arthur Landis, lll, of Millerstown, PA, and is survived by her sister Suzanne Sadler of Danville, VA, and her brother Richard Landis of Churchville, VA, and their families. She was blessed with large loving extended families on both parents' sides, contributing greatly to her long and happy life. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Friday, January 5th, 2018, from 11 to 12:30 pm. A private graveside service will be held in Lynchburg, VA. Syd requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, God’s Storehouse, or God’s Pit Crew.
