Sue Hylton Wickers, 82, of Danville, VA, passed away unexpectedly at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital on November 2, 2018. Born in Danville, on January 12, 1936, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Howard Hylton. She was a graduate of Averett University and Virginia Commonwealth University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy. Her forty-year career in physical therapy began at the UVA Children’s Rehab Center, followed by many years as an independent consultant in various clinical, hospital, nursing home, and in-home settings. She had an enduring interest in wellness and the mind/body connection. She was an amateur musician, with a love for the piano, a former member of the Heartstrings chorus, and an occasional actress, singer/dancer, with The Danville Little Theatre. She was also a fiber artist, talented at spinning, weaving, felting and knitting. She was a lifelong member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Danville, where she was a dedicated member of the Aldersgate singing and handbell choirs. Sue brought great joy to others, with her humor and special love of life. She was the heart of her family. She leaves behind her cherished husband, Dr. Frank C. Wickers, her daughter Kate Wilson (Dave) of Raleigh, NC, her son, Clinton Wickers (Sarah) of Candler, NC, step-daughter, Johanna Wickers of Chatham, and sister, Martha “B” Hylton, of Danville. In recent years, “Mama Sue” found much happiness spending time with her young grandchildren, Dillon Wilson and Blair Wilson. The family would like to thank their neighbors and the Danville Lifesaving Crew. Friends will be received at Townes Funeral Home, on Sunday, November 4th from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00, Monday, November 5, at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Danville, followed by interment at Mt. View Cemetery.
