CALOS, Steve Stavros, 64, of Richmond, passed away November 14, 2014 following a brief illness. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Dobbins Calos of Danville; three sisters, Linda Sadler (Henry) of Greensboro, N.C., Laurie Dishman (Steve) of Danville and Lisa Salita (Andy) of Henrico; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; two beloved children, Stavros Efrstratiou Calos and Margaret Elizabeth Irina Calos, both of Richmond; and their mother, Katherine Carter Calos, of Richmond. He was predeceased by his father, Stavros Efstratiou Calos. Steve was born in Danville, Va. and graduated from the honors program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He first came to Richmond to work as a public information officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He became the executive director of Common Cause Virginia, where he successfully lobbied for the public good on many fronts. He also formed and chaired the Virginia Network for Campaign Finance Reform and served as executive director of the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. He helped form and lead Boy Scout Troop 498, named one of the top 12 Catholic-sponsored troops in the nation. He had been president of the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association. He was a member and had been on the parish council of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was very proud of his Greek heritage and especially of his family's origins on the island of Crete. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond with a Trisagion prayer service to follow. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Townes Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Danville, Va., with burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
