Stephen M. Cooper, 73, formerly of Danville, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 in Albemarle, NC. He was born on May 17, 1948 in Albemarle, a son of the late Hazel Mack Cooper and Margaret Elise Poole Cooper. He was married for 34 years to the late Judy Ann Spainhour Cooper. Stephen loved restoring old Volkswagen Beetles and watching Formula 1 racing. He was the parts manager at Mercedes Benz Geo. W. Aron & Co., Inc. for 15 years. On Friday nights in Danville, you could often find him at GW Football games. He enjoyed his “back porch sitting”, watching and listening to the birds and smoking his pipe. After returning back to his hometown, he loved going to Marrow Mountain State Park. He would also find time every fall to head to the Blue Ridge Mountains to see the changing of the season. A member of Ascension Lutheran Church, he was the Chrismons secretary for 10 years. Above all of this, he loved spending time with his three granddaughters, who brought him so much joy. Stephen is survived by his loving daughter, Kelly C. Kiker, and her husband, Zachary; his three granddaughters, Mackenzie, Emilia and Zoey Kiker; one brother, Barry Cooper, and his wife, Jane; one sister, Sherry Brown and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Cooper and a brother Michael Cooper. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at Ascension Lutheran Church from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The church asks, that everyone in attendance please wear a mask. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Mountain View Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. in Danville.
