Sharon Elizabeth Denny, age 56, died on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health. She was born in Danville on February 11, 1960, she was the daughter of Jack Thomas Denny and Betty Jean McClanahan Denny who survive of Danville. Sharon was an active member of Grace-Design United Methodist Church where she had been Sunday school teacher, choir member and Director of the Pre-School. She had served on various committees through the years. She had retired from the Danville Public School System as a teacher after 32 years of service. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and Averett University receiving her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. Sharon was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. Besides her parents she is survived by two sisters; Deborah D. McDaniel and Brenda Davis both of Danville. Also surviving are a niece, Jamie Elizabeth McDaniel and a nephew, Jerry Leonard McDaniel, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 3 P.M. from Grace-Design United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jay Summerlin, Reverend Kameron Wiles and the Reverend Tommy Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Grace-Design United Methodist Church on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 7 to 8 P.M. and at other times will at the residence of Brenda and Joey Davis, 209 Wheatley Road. The family request that memorials may be directed to Danville Cancer Association, 223 Riverview Drive, Danville, VA 24541. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Denny family.
