Dr. Scott Joseph Banuelos of 411 Mowbray Arch died Thursday, August 29, 2013 from injuries sustained in a plane crash at Danville Regional Airport. He was born in Denver, CO on June 13, 1971, a son of Marguerite Brown Banuelos of Danville and Ruben Banuelos of Thornton, CO. He was a member of Sacered Heart Catholic Church. At the time of his death Dr. Banuelos was a cardiovascular surgeon at Danville Regional Medical Center as part of the Duke Heart Network. A Colorado native, Dr. Banuelos was known for his love of running and music-the Beatles, Elvis and the blues in particlar. He also loved planes-a fascination his mother said began when he was a young child. A graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, CO. He did his residency at the University of Massachusetts-General Surgery, the UCLA Heart and Lung Transplant Program, and at the University of Kentucky-Thoracic Surgery. After residency Dr. Banuelos did a fellowship at Duke University-Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. Besides his mother and father he is survived by a brother, Greg Banuelos of Danville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Anthony Marques officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. A Wake Service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at 411 Mowbray Arch. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Banuelos family.
