Saturnina (Nina) Sabayton Smith passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at her residence in Danville, Virginia.
She was born on January 19, 1948, in the Philippines to the late Aniano Canoy and Lucilla Sabayton Canoy. She spent her early life in the Philippines as a schoolteacher. However, when she moved to the United States, she stopped due to the many cultural differences. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and Solitaire, painting her nails, makeup, dancing, the mall, loved to cook, walking, and singing Elvis Presley. Nina was feisty, small but mighty, strong and a fighter, and a people person. She was loving and nurturing to her family. Nina had excellent skin for her age, and she frequently called people “sexy.”
In June of 1981, Nina married Elden Smith, who passed away on April 12, 1996.
She is survived by her son, Eldon Smith, her daughter, Eldesa Smith (Erik Elmore), her granddaughter, Marenah Smith, and her cats, Jaggy, and Bailey.
