Sally Fuller

February 25, 1939 — December 11, 2024

Sally S. Fuller, 85, died on December 11, 2024, at her home. She was born to the late Ray Davis and the late Marion Ruffin Stephenson, on February 25, 1939, in Bishopville, South Carolina. Sally played basketball in high school and made many lifelong friends in Bishopville.

In 1961, Sally graduated from Limestone college in Gaffney, South Carolina and later began her teaching career at George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia. It was while teaching at George Washington that she met her husband, William H. “Bill” Fuller, III. They were married on July 1, 1962.
Sally taught school at several locations but spent most of her thirty year career teaching Health and Physical Education at O.T. Bonner Junior High School. She loved her students and they loved her. When she retired, everywhere she went former students would greet her with expressions of affection which gave her such a thrill.

Both Sally and Bill enjoyed the many times they visited Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, to see the summertime shows and the beautiful Christmas Pageants in December. They also enjoyed vacationing in Western, North Carolina, where they rode the scenic trains in the mountains. They visited the Biltmore House and gardens in Asheville, North Carolina on many occasions. The Christmas lighting program was especially enjoyable.

Sally is survived by her husband of the home; a sister, Zylphia Quattlebaum; a brother, Ruffin Stephenson, both of Greenville, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend and beloved sister-in-law, Anne Wayne Patterson (Dick); and a niece she loved very much, Meredith Ann Laufenberg (John).

In 1995, Sally and Anne Wayne flew to California to visit Meredith, who was then living there. While there they rented a car and after seeing some California landmarks, they went to Mexico. Sally and Anne Wayne enjoyed being with each other, and particularly, they enjoyed playing tennis with their circle of tennis friends. Anne Wayne remembered their good times playing tennis, and said “We were always partners.”
