Ruth Louise Wilson Webb passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 24, 2013. Born January 4, 1931, she was a daughter of James Carl and Ruth Allison Wilson. She grew up on a farm near Salisbury, NC, where she loved playing with her siblings and also learned to love sewing, animals and gardening. Ruth, or "Lou" as she was known to family, graduated from China Grove High School, where she earned the physics award as a senior. She went on to graduate from Lowrance Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1952, where she was the valedictorian of her class. Always fond of children, she worked as a pediatric Registered Nurse for most of her adult life; even when she took several years off to raise her children, Ruth frequently volunteered her services for events and organizations needing nursing assistance. In 1990, she retired as a nurse manager at Alexandria Hospital in Virginia. On August 16, 1953, Ruth married Joseph L. Webb. Together they built wonderful memories as they enjoyed raising their four children and moving throughout the United States and Europe for Joe's work with the American Red Cross. Ruth was widely admired for her sewing skills. She made her own wedding dress, as well as the wedding gowns and bridesmaids' dresses for both of her daughters, and beautiful dresses for her granddaughters. In 1991, Joe and Ruth retired to Danville, where Ruth found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and quilting. She loved cooking for and spending time with her family. There was nothing she loved more than to see her family all sitting together and eating until they could eat no more. With her very sweet nature and generosity of spirit, Ruth was well loved by those who knew her. As Joe's health declined, everyone admired how she took care of him with great love until his death in 2009. A Presbyterian almost all of her life and a woman of great faith, Ruth was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder. She was a member of the Evening Circle; as her own health declined, she was very appreciative that the circle came to her home for their monthly meetings, so that she could continue to participate. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers Cecil Wilson and William Kenneth Wilson. Survivors include her sister Emma Yates (husband Arnold), brother J. C. Wilson (wife Ruth) and sister-in-law Nancy Wilson; sons George W. Webb (wife Tracy), Allen L. Webb (wife Carolyn); daughters Jo Ann W. Moore (husband Fred) and Jayne D. Webb; granddaughters Laura Allison Moore, Hannah Ruth Moore and Maya Joyce Webb; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Danville Memorial Gardens Chapel on Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. John Losee officiating. Family will receive friends after the service, and will otherwise be at the home, 112 Dublin Court. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that friends consider a donation to Unity Presbyterian Church, 835 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, Virginia or a charity of their choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at Roman Eagle Memorial Home and Danville Regional Medical Center for their kindness and care in Ruth's final weeks. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Webb family.
