Ruth Pearson

Ruth Royster Pearson, 93, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Stratford Healthcare Center.    She was born September 10, 1926 to the late Jesse Carr Royster and Maude Slade Royster in Danville, Va.    Mrs. Pearson spent her entire life in Danville, Va. She graduated in 1945 from George Washington High School.    On July 21, 1951 she married Robert W. Pearson, the love of her life. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2010.    In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Clara Lewis; brother-in-law, Fuller Lewis; and her niece, Judy Lewis Tuck.     Mrs. Pearson was employed by the City Treasurers Office of Danville for thirty-seven years. She retired in 1986 as City Deputy Treasurer. She was an active lifelong member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church until her health failed. She was the last member of her generation.    She is survived by two great nieces, Natalie Whitlow and Lori Luther, both of Danville, Virginia; nephew, Ed Tuck of South Boston, Virginia; two great nephews, William Whitlow and Chris Luther, both of Danville, Virginia; five great-great nieces and nephews, Brianna Whitlow, Cami Whitlow, Tyler and Rebecca Whitlow, and Christopher Luther, all of Danville, Virginia; and three great-great-great nieces, Sarah, Katherine, and Lauren Whitlow.    The family would also like to thank Ruth's caregiver and friend Wanda McCall.    The funeral will be held at Townes Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be private in Highland Burial Park.  The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
