Mrs. Ruby Lee Jackson Harvey passed away at her home at age 93 on July 28th 2017. Ruby was born January 13, 1924 in Hickory, North Carolina, to the Reverend Otis T. and Nannie Bell Jackson. Ruby and her family moved to Schoolfield, Virginia where she graduated from Schoolfield High School in 1942. While there, she was a member of the Glee club, softball and basketball teams. She also attended Averett College. In 1946, she along with Lois Motley and Della May Fowler, moved to Los Angeles, California, where she worked for Arden Farms. She married Loyd R. Harvey on April 13, 1948, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ruby and Loyd returned to Danville in 1954 where she worked part-time for the Danville Tobacco markets until 1961 when she became a full-time homemaker. Ruby was a long-time member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. She was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class until her health declined. Ruby is survived by her daughters, Connie Harvey Alderson and husband Dean of Ringgold, Virginia, and Diana Harvey McFarling of the residence. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Alderson and wife Hillary of Ringgold, Virginia, Amanda Monk and husband Chip of Sutherlin, Virginia, and Amber Alderson of Ringgold, Virginia, step grandson Scott Alderson and wife Terri of Berryville, Virginia and great-grandchildren Kyle and Kendall Alderson, Lee Dooley, Jace and Ridge Monk, Hayden and Reagan Alderson. Also surviving are sisters-in- law Dorothy Jackson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Evelyn Harvey of Walnut Cove, North Carolina, along with several nieces and nephews and their families. Ruby was the last member of her generation. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Odessa J. Clifton and Opal J. Ashworth and by brothers, Carl, Raymond, Otis Jr. and Bobby Jackson and great-grandson, Wyatt Monk. The Harvey Family wishes to thank Doctor Trividi and the staff of Memorial Family Care, the staff of Danville Regional Medical Center and Emergency Room, the staff of Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center, GoDocs and Commonwealth Nursing and Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 2. p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2017, at Townes Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Hilliard officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 pm on Saturday July 29th at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence, 296 Arnett Boulevard, Danville, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Moffett Memorial Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
