Ruby C. Crowell passed peacefully into God’s presence at her home on Tuesday, April, 25, 2017. She was a child of Grover Cleveland Colville and Sallie Payton Britt Colville, born on December 13, 1918 in Pitt County, North Carolina, She spent her early childhood at Hughes Memorial School where she always maintained warm and loving memories. She graduated from Whitmell High School. Mrs. Crowell’s professional career was as a retail buyer for Thalhimer’s of Richmond, and she retired from Belk Leggett in 1980. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Danville, Virginia. Ruby was predeceased by her first husband, Roy C. Holley, Jr. and later married George Price Crowell, who died September 23, 1991. She also had 2 brothers and a sister predeceased. Her grandson, Brett Todd Holley also predeceased her in 2015. Survivors include her son, Roy C. Holley III, her grandson Shawn B. Holley, her granddaughter Holly A. Holley and several grandchildren. Ruby also leaves behind her special dog JuLee, who always remained at her side. We are forever indebted to her caregivers who were like family to Ruby. Ruby touched the lives of many people during her life with much love, kindness and grace. Ruby was the epitome of a gracious, kind southern lady who will be greatly missed and always remembered and love. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. from the Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Reverend Allen Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the mausoleum chapel. The family request that memorials may be directed to the Danville Humane Society.
