Roy Preston Younger, age 88, of 233 Wyndover Drive passed away at his residence on September 4, 2022. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church for 57 years and is presently a member at Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Roy was born on May 30, 1934, to the late Raleigh Jackson Younger and Mattie Johnson Younger in Chartlotte County, VA. Roy attended 8 years of school and began working at 15 years of age as a salad and sandwich maker for Danville Sandwich Company. At 21 years of age, he began to learn the masonry trade and at 26 years old he went into business with Charlie Curtis as C.F. Curtis & Younger Masonry. Roy went out on his own after 3 years becoming an entrepreneur and eventually owning an interest in 7 different companies . He was predeceased by his wife of 66 ½ years, Martha Young Younger, on January 31, 2019. Roy and Martha met at Ballou Park Pavilion after night school in 1951 and he was interested in Martha, immediately. Roy ask her for a date but she said she didn’t know and he followed her home to see where she lived. Eventually Roy and Martha were married on June 28, 1952; Roy was 18 years old and Martha was 19 years old. Roy had a house built prior to their marriage and they spent the first night of their honeymoon in it. Roy had to sell his car to buy a refrigerator and stove for the new home and had to borrow his father-in-law’s car to take Martha on their honeymoon. After 15 months of marriage, their first child was born; three more were to follow and on June 28, 2018, the couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Martha kept the books for 7 different companies and she and Roy worked side by side. Roy is survived by his four children; his two daughters Cynthia Huffman (Mike) and Jeanne Weatherford, and his two sons, Preston Younger and Timothy Younger (Miki), along with 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Rosa Hylton, and predeceased by his brothers, Raleigh, Jr., John Thomas, William “Bill” and Edward Jackson, and sisters, Louise Meadows, Mary Moorefield and Teresa Evans. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 09, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. from Faith Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Daniel Lackey officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens . The family will receive friends on Monday, September 5, 2022, from 10:00 am until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the residence, 233 Wyndover Drive in Danville, VA.
