Roxie Haley Snead, 85, passed away, Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was born on March 29, 1929 in Ringgold, VA a daughter of the late Roy Sterling Haley and Gracie May Singleton Haley. Roxie graduated from Dan River High School, received an Associate Degree from Stratford College, a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from Longwood College. She worked at Dan River Mills for over 20 years and a teacher with the Danville School System for over 27 years. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church where she was in the Women's Circle One and a co-teacher of Sunday School. She was also active at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in the Cancer Pad Club, Keenagers, and Circle One, and the Young and Heart at First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Senior Citizen's Club, the AARP, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, American Legion Post 325 Auxiliary, Retired Teachers, an officer of the Pocahontas Lodge of Red Men, volunteered at the Stonewall Center, the homeless shelter, and Doves. Roxie is survived by two sons, Marc Francis Snead and his wife, Donna of Ridgeway, VA and Barry Sterling Snead and his wife, Patricia of Danville, VA; two sisters, Goldie H. Sublett of Ringgold, VA and Sylvia H. Boyer of Black Mountain, NC; one granddaughter, Misty S. Lawrence; and two great-grandchildren, Kennedy Lawrence and Blakely Lawrence. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at College Park Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. CAM McIntire and the Reverend Archer McIntire officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 7 at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and at other times at the home of her son, Barry, 812 Corn Tassel Road. The family would like to thank the staff of the south wing at Roman Eagle and her devoted caregiver Barbara Bennett for their patience and caring during her stay at Roman Eagle.
