On January 14, 2015, Robert Lee Yancey, 62, passed away at Danville Regional Medical Center after a seven year struggle with chronic illness. He was born on August 10, 1952 and preceded in death by parents Melvin Jackson Yancey and Eva Madeline Yancey of Danville, VA. He is survived by wife of 39 years, Deborah H. Yancey of Danville, VA, son Robert E. Yancey of Monona, IA, and daughters Angela K. Yancey and Jessica M. Yancey of Greensboro, NC, two precious granddaughters, Elizabeth G. Yancey and Emily G. Yancey of Danville, VA. Lee is also survived by sister Kay Y. Porter and husband Andy J. Porter of Christiansburg, VA and brother Don J. Yancey and wife Paula C. Yancey of Rustburg, VA and seven nieces and nephews. Lee was a graduate of George Washington High school in 1970, finished undergraduate program at Wake Forest University in 1974, and completed law school at Wake Forest in 1976 where he was named the sixth person in the school's history to graduate magna cum laude. He also received various awards including the Warren A. Seavey for outstanding scholastic achievement and also became associate editor of the school's law review. He practiced law with Theodore Huggins in 1976 before joining in partnership with Clement and Wheatley in the 80's until 2009 when he finished out his law practice at Daniel, Medley, and Kirby of Danville, VA. He held various offices in Danville such as Chairman of the Fifth District Republican Party and was a member of Jaycees Rotary and Danville Choral Society. Lee attended Trinity United Methodist Church until present day, where he served faithfully as Sunday school teacher and leader of various bible studies as well as a member of the chancel choir. He also ministered to Anderson Chapel United Methodist Church until his health prevented it. He was a valuable member to the Danville community, a devoted husband, loving father, and faithful servant to his Lord. Funeral services will be held Sunday January 18, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 2 pm with the Reverend Charles Wickham officiating, with reception and visitation following.
