May 18, 1955 — December 18, 2024

On December 18th, 2024, Robert Carwile Whitney, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 69.

Born on May 18th, 1955, to the late Lawrence Luther Whitney, Jr. and Virginia Colleen Moore, Robert lived a life filled with love, faith, and dedication. He built a remarkable 35-year career with UPS and was a faithful member of United Baptist Church in Danville, VA.

For 45 beautiful years, Robert shared his life with his beloved wife, Linda Wright Whitney. Together, they created a family and a legacy of love that included their cherished children and grandchildren, who were the light of Robert’s life and his favorite source of pride.

Robert is survived by his son, Blake Whitney (Tiffany), and his daughter, Maggie Kiser (Vance). He was a proud grandfather to five wonderful grandchildren: Eli, Paxton, Blakely, Lincoln, and Palmer. He is also survived by his siblings Billy (Darlene) Whitney, Lawrence (Ceil) Whitney, Allison Whitney and Cheryl (Terry) Reynolds, and predeceased by Margaret Whitney. Also, surviving are his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Robert was a man of many passions. He enjoyed cycling along the River Walk, hiking the trails of the Smoky Mountains, fishing on the Dan River, and camping at Buggs Island, fishing trips to Florida, and especially his fishing trip to Alaska with his closest friends. Above all, he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren.

A funeral service to honor Robert’s life will be held on Friday, December 20th, at 12:00 PM at United Baptist Church in Danville, VA, officiated by Dr. Adam Woods. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service and at other times at their home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Robert’s memory. Contributions can be sent to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or made online at www.stjude.org.

Robert’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
