Mr. Robert Williams Johnson, age 96 of Providence, NC went to be with his Lord on September 18, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Mr. Johnson was born in Chatham County, NC on November 26, 1916, a son of the late Ed H. Johnson and Rose Pickard Johnson. Mr. Johnson was married to the late Iona Woodall Johnson who died January 21, 2001. Besides his wife, mother and father he was predeceased by a son, J. Norman Splawn, a brother, Durward M. Johnson and a sister, Rachel J. Smith. He attended Providence Baptist Church and was retired from American Tobacco Company. Mr. Johnson was an Army veteran of World War II serving with General Patton in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, D-Day invasion at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Tunisian and Algeria French Morocco Campaigns. Surviving are his daughters; Aloma S. Hawkins and her husband Robert of Alton, VA and Darlene S. Holmes and her husband James of Saltville, VA, one brother, Thomas J. (Jack) Johnson of Reidsville, NC, one grandson, Richard D. Chattin and his wife Delores of Alton, VA. Also surviving are his special friends and caregivers, Angela Stephens and Ray Walley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from the graveside at Danville Memorial Gardens with Ray Walley officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post # 29 and the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Johnson family.
