Robert W. “Bob” Haskins, a well-known Danville educator, died June 21, 2023, on his family farm in Dry Fork, Virginia surrounded by his family. Bob was born on June 4, 1939, in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina to Woodrow and Leah Haskins and he spent his childhood in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Bob graduated from Goldsboro High School. He attended East Carolina University and was a standout as a track athlete. Bob also completed graduate work at the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Lynchburg College.
Bob retired from the Danville Public Schools after 42 years. He was a Principal of four schools in Danville - Stonewall Elementary School, E.A. Gibson Middle School, O.T. Bonner Middle School, and George Washington High School. He was also a Director of Finance for the Danville Public Schools for a few years.
Bob enjoyed playing golf, long distance running, collecting local Native American artifacts, attending horse shows with his girls, carving unique snake canes, making individual family tobacco walking sticks, working on his family farm, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also enjoyed helping raise Hanoverian foals on the farm with his daughter Angie and his son-in-law, Jim.
In his last few years, Bob enjoyed expressing his Christian faith by authoring inspirational Facebook posts that were followed by many of his friends and family in the Danville Community; and he enjoyed relaxing on his farm and watching the family grow.
He was predeceased by a brother Donald and survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ann. He is also survived by his 3 children Bryan (Petra), Carrie (David) and Angie (Jim). Additionally, he is survived by 5 grandchildren Jacob, Hunter, and Ann Magee Waltman of Chesterfield and Lia and Will Haskins of Danville. Further, he is survived by his brother Bryan Haskins (Marion) of Gig Harbor, Washington and his nephews Will, Cliff and Wes Haskins.
Bob was a long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church where a service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Barbara Cousar. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Liberty Hospice, the Danville Cancer Association, or to Trinity United Methodist Church.
