Robert (Bob) Keen Floyd, Sr., of Danville, Va., passed away peacefully on April 4, 2017, at Hock Family Pavillion Hospice, in Durham, NC. Bob was born September 21, 1922, in Danville, the son of Richard Montgomery Floyd and Lucille Malone Edwards Floyd. A graduate of GWHS, he finished at Va. Tech with a BS in Business Administration. Following active duty in World War II in Europe, he became a certified public accountant, practicing public accounting for 50 years, first with A.M. Pullen, and as senior partner of Manning, Perkinson, Floyd & Co. A gold medal winner when he passed the CPA exam, he served on committees and commissions establishing standards for auditing and accounting procedures and tax practice. Mr. Floyd served tours of duty overseas as a commissioned officer in W.W.II and again during the Korean Conflict. He was a navigator and flew B-17 missions in the 15th Air Force while stationed in Foggia Italy, and was awarded the European Theater medal with two battle stars and a Presidential Unit Citation for missions flown. As a reserve officer he attained the rank of Captain while serving as auditor assigned to the US Air Force, Wiesbaden, Germany. Mr. Floyd was an active lifetime member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent, teacher, choir member, administrative chairman and trustee. As a 55 years member of Danville Host Lions Club, he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Club International. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the YMCA, and continued as a trustee of the Carrington Charitable Trust Funds until his demise. He served two terms on the Board of Managers of the Danville Golf Club, where he enjoyed many rounds with his golfing friends, and accumulated at least four holes-in-one in spite of his unconventional swing. In their retirement years, Bob and Olga traveled extensively all over the world. Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of 69 years, Olga Carson Floyd, of the residence and children: Patricia J. Floyd, (Kate)Ithaca, NY, Pamela Pulley (Glenn), Danville, and Robert K. Floyd, Jr., Roanoke, Va. Three grandsons are J. Carson Pulley (Evelyn) of New York, NY, Andrew W. Pulley, New York NY, and Robert K. Floyd, III, Arlington, Va. Two great grand children are Bess and Tommy Pulley. A brother, Richard M. Floyd, Jr., and three nephews also survive. A Memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Townes Memorial Chapel, Danville, at 3 pm, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, to be preceded by a visitation beginning at 1pm.
