Robert Carroll Brooks, 78, passed away on May 19, 2024, in Danville, Virginia.
Robert was born on August 5, 1945, a son of the late Randolph Kelly Brooks and Betty Jane Burnett Brooks. Robert served in the United States Army and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville, Virginia. He had a B.S. in Journalism from Suffolk University in Boston. He was active in the local theatre, The Averett Players, a President of The Little Theatre of Danville from 1997-1999, a member of the As Bill Sees It Group, a member of a trivia team with a group of dear friends called the Wynne's Falls Raiders, and he served on the board of directors of the River District Association for at least a decade. He loved travelling, the arts, reading, and movies.
Robert is survived by a son, Christopher Brooks, three daughters, Sarah Hale (Steven), Andrea Janine Riddle (Christopher), and Bethany Brooks (Blake), a grandchild, Winry Riddle, two brothers, Randy (Marilyn) and Phillip Brooks, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by his brother, Stephen Brooks.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Townes Funeral Home, with inurnment following at Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Broschart officiating. A memorial visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his dear friends Peanut Perdue and Brenda Garner and a host of other loving and supporting friends.
