David Wrenn

November 16, 1954 — March 3, 2025

David Wrenn of Providence, NC passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025. He was a son of the late Barbara Cress Satterfield and Edward Carter Wrenn. He is survived by his wife, Lorrie, to whom he was married for over 45 years. He is also survived by his son, John Wrenn (Christine) and daughter, Stephanie Tickle (Leo) and one grandchild, Andrew Tickle (Kelsey). He is also survived by his brother, Carter Wrenn (Page) and sisters, April & Lelia and many close cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Anne Wrenn and brother, Brian Wrenn.

David lived in the Gatewood community for most of his life. David was a member of Shady Grove UMC for his entire life. His health kept him from being active but he continued serving on the Trustees-Cemetery Committee. David worked at Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Co. for 26 years followed by several years with US Tobacco in Timberlake, NC. He also owned the R. David Wrenn insurance agency.

David grew up working on his great uncles farm. He also worked with his father in construction. He farmed tobacco and hay for many years and enjoyed working in the tobacco industry. He loved cutting and stacking firewood and being on a tractor!

As many of you know, David had a strong interest in politics. He began by volunteering with many notable local, state, and federal political campaigns. Then he successfully led a community effort to prevent a regional mega solid waste dump from being built in Pelham. David was a Caswell County Commissioner from 1994-2002 and elected again in November, 2024, taking the oath of office in December. David was always known for being firm on how the county spent taxpayer dollars. He may have seemed gruff to some folks, but if you asked our cat, Oscar, he would tell you how kind David could be.

Funeral services, followed by visitation, will be held on Friday, March 7th at 11AM at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Providence, NC by The Reverend Scott Coats and The Reverend Ross Carter. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the General Fund of Shady Grove UMC.
