Richard Burnet Newton ,90, of Danville VA passed away peacefully on December 5, 2014 at Riverside Heath and Rehabilitation Center. "Bud" as most knew him was born March 19, 1924 in Hartford, CT, to the late Helen and Theodore Newton. Bud served in the US Army during WWII, stationed in England, Germany and France. Upon his return he worked in the family business, the former Netherlands Hotel in Hartford, CT. In 2006 he and his wife relocated to Danville VA. He was a proud member of the American Legion in both Niantic, CT and Danville, VA. Bud will be remembered for his wit, strong ethics and love of riding motorcycles. He was an avid Yankee fan and passed on his love of baseball to his great grandson. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Christie Newton , his brother Theodore Newton of Old Saybrook CT his daughters ; Elizabeth Walker (Garland) of Danville VA, Suzanne Brosnan (Robert) of Sarasota FL, Barbara Newton of New Britain CT, granddaughter Christie VanPelt (Joey) and great grandson Alexander VanPelt of Danville VA, along with many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Newton Hahn. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday December 10, 2014 at 1:00PM at Townes Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kathleen Monge officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at other times at the residence of his daughter Liza Walker at 210 James Rd. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Newton family.
