Richard Lawrence Nemec, 88, of Martinsville, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 31, 2022. Mr. Nemec was born on September 8, 1934, in Manhattan, New York, as the son of the late Lawrence Joseph Nemec and the late Dagne Genevieve Hendricksen Nemec. He graduated in 1956 from Lafayette College in Easton, PA., with a BS in Physics. After serving his country in the Air Force Reserves, he worked as an engineer for Grumman Aerospace at Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he worked on the calibrations and testing team on the Lunar Module for the Apollo Missions, including Apollo 11. After the completion of the Apollo 11 Mission, Mr. Nemec and his family were transferred to Long Island, New York. After his retirement from Grumman in 1985, he pursued his passion for residential real estate, which included buying, building and renting property up until 2017. Mr. Nemec loved animals and was an avid New York sports fan, but gained the most enjoyment by sitting in the stands and rooting for his sons and eventually his grandchildren as they played for their respective teams. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cora Edna Jager Nemec, his son Richard S. Nemec of Hillsborough, NJ, and his son Michael L. Nemec and wife Crystal of Martinsville, VA. He is also survived by five grandchildren (David, Sean, Abbey, Riley, and Savannah). His greatest love was his family and he was beloved to them. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Townes Funeral Home. A private service will be held in New Jersey at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to the Alzheimer’s Association www.ALZ.org in memory of Mr. Nemec.
