Richard Donald Moss, 83, of 369 Rocky Knoll Lane, passed away Tuesday evening, October 13, 2015 at his residence. He was born on December 2, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, Va. a son of the late Oscar Robert Moss and Mary Olive Young Moss. Richard was married on February 6, 1953 to the former Carolyn Meadors who passed away on January 18, 2015. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1951 to 1955 and was a member of Vandola Baptist Church. Following his discharge from the service, Richard worked on the family farm and Dan River, Inc. He later worked with his brother, Norman in the logging business before becoming a driver with Virginia-Carolina Trucking Company and then with Trucking Cargo Transport. In his later years he was associated with Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, and Townes Funeral Home. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a brother, Norman Moss and a sister, Helen Clifton. Richard is survived by a son, Michael Keith Moss; a daughter, Kimberly Moss Key and husband, Joe; a granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Key; a brother, Marvin L. Moss and his wife, Judy; a sister-in-law, Ruth Moss all of Danville; a sister, Holmes Onieda Walters of Miami, Fla. Graveside services will be held on Friday morning, October 16th at 11 a.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors by American Legion Post 1097. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times will be at the residence. The family would like to specially thank Commonwealth Home Healthcare and Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion given to Richard during his illness and to Becky Ware and Robert Roberson for all they have done to help Richard.
