Richard Mcfarling

Richard Eugene McFarling, 93, passed away at his residence on Thursday morning October 13, 2022. He was born in Danville on September 2, 1929, a son of the late James Malloy McFarling and Beatrice Sams McFarling. Richard attended Schoolfield High School and George Washington High School and graduated in 1947. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Glen Oak Country Club for a number of years where he enjoyed playing golf. Richard was employed with J. W. Squire Company for over 40 years until his retirement. He was an active member of West Main Baptist Church until a decline in health. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, James M. McFarling, Jr. Richard is survived by his wife, Lillie Harold McFarling of the home; a son, Richard E. “Ricky” McFarling, Jr. (Chris) of Providence, NC; a daughter Amy McFarling Wilkerson of Danville; two granddaughters, Lauren and Hailey McFarling; a sister, Sandra McFarling; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 from 2 to 3 pm at West Main Baptist Church followed by a Memorial Service at 3 pm at the church conducted by the Reverend Drew Herring and the Reverend Bruce Wilson. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made in memory of Richard to West Main Baptist Church or the Danville Life Saving Crew.
