Raymond Kennon Poteat, Sr. passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening, March 27, 2014 in the Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. He was born on March 20, 1923 in Semora, NC a son of the late George Albert Poteat and Cora Bryant Poteat. On September 20, 1941 he married Eunice Parrott "Polly" Poteat who passed away on September 24, 2002. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a son, Raymond Kennon Poteat, Jr., a sister Inez Poteat Calvert and two brothers Ralph Poteat and George Poteat. Kennon owned and operated Ken and Earl's restaurant in the Glenwood Community and later managed the Cain Creek Golf Course until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and dearly supported his son and grandson in their sporting activities. He is survived by a grandson, Raymond Kennon Poteat, III and his wife, Julie Wilson and a step-great-grandson, Benjamin Schwartz all of Washington, DC, a daughter-in-law, Faye Motley Poteat of Danville, a brother, Ronald Wayne Poteat of Huntsville, AL, a special dear friend and companion, Lorene Harris Neal of Danville and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm in Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Susan Hannah officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter-in-law, Faye Poteat, 720 Vicar Road.
